Often late on departure and arrival. Rigid rules and policies. Trains are clean and staff on the trains are helpful and pleasant. Customer service on the other hand: long wait times to talk to a live person, try to rush you along and interrupt you, when you have a problem they just recite the rules over and over, take no time to find an agreeable solution and have no empathy.

We took the train so we could enjoy the scenery on our trip to Toronto but all the seats were facing backwards . We ended up with sore necks and headaches. We won't be doing this again.

About Via Rail

Throughout the colonial period, Canada's vast and far-reaching territory was largely uninhabited. Living conditions were difficult.

Harsh winters made travelling almost impossible and many villages were left isolated for months at a time. Automobiles were not yet invented, bicycles still decades away.

To allow this country to thrive (as opposed to merely survive), to ensure that travel, commerce and development would flourish, a railway had to be built, one that would alter the course of Canadian and North American history.
